I’ve worked in cutting-edge science and tech for a looong time, often at sea or out in the wilderness. This means I’ve also collected ideas and inspiration as I’ve hungrily explored Earth.
I draw an enormous fascination from nature’s processes and flows. The ebb and flood of tides. The rise and fall of rivers. Migrating sand banks and the erosion of cliffs. The browning of leaves as summer fades into autumn.
In the natural world, a storm develops in our atmosphere where a centre of low pressure is surrounded by high pressure. Air becomes unstable until, with a bang, energy is released.
This reflects the way I tend to work which, in this sanitised, air-conditioned world, can seem a bit… Different. In a good way.
I have an affinity for explosive, rapid-onset creativity and a passion for the unpredictable. I thrive in those moments where a sudden downpour makes way for a short, sweet glimmer of golden sunlight. I find pockets of calm amidst chaos.
I’ve also picked up a few tricks – hard not to when you’re paid to find new ways to capture Earth – and developed a strong creative eye. You may be able to gain something from the way I see the world, too.
