What is reality capture? In a sentence, it’s “capturing the world around us as we see it” and in this case, it’s captured in 3D.
I typically do this using one of two processes: photogrammetry (stitching lots of photos together based on common points to compute the shape of a scene or object) and laser scanning (which you’ve probably already heard of).
In a former life, I did both to quite incredible degrees of precision – accuracies of as tight as a millimetre in some cases. Today, I offer similar services for creative capture.
The possibilities are endless but to help you follow my offer, you could hire me to:
Develop a photorealistic 3D model of the exterior of your house
Build a lifelike, 3D model of your beloved BMW Z3 (other makes and models are available)
Capture an authentic digital replica of a priceless family heirloom
Generally, though, I offer reality capture as a way of preserving a moment in time in more immersive way than you tend to get from a photo or video. Imagine a garden, in 3D, before landscaping. Or a true-colour model of a favourite running route, which you could print as a 3D tile and stick on your mantel piece.
